DC Abortion Fund operates a free, confidential funding assistance helpline for women and girls in the DC area who need help paying for their abortions. Our highly trained volunteer case managers provide options counseling and financial assistance for callers. DCAF case managers work directly with area clinics and funds around the country to provide small grants that fill the gap between what patients can afford and the full cost of their procedure. To date, we have never turned away a single patient who was eligible for DCAF funding.
We have 9 volunteer board members who oversee DCAF’s work. The board supervises 23 case managers and organizes events and campaigns that raise money for the small grants we disburse. A task force of additional DCAF’ volunteers includes a pro bono attorney, graphic designer, and our events committee.
DCAF is the only fund in the DC region that focuses solely on disbursing small grants to women and girls in our community. Despite our organizational growth of nearly 500% in workers, we hold true to our roots as an all-volunteer, woman-led fund.
