About the film:
The Coat Hanger Project: Since the passage of Roe v. Wade in 1973, anti-choice forces in the US have been making it their mission to dismantle women’s reproductive freedom. Their weapons: money, the legal system, the government, the media, the church, and a generation who have never known the ravages of illegal abortion.
Filmmaker Angie Young walks the viewer through the personal stories and images of women who died from illegal abortion, and the lengths women went through when they couldn’t access legal abortions. There is some dramatic footage of a female veteran of the Iraq war retelling her experience of nearly dying of a self-induced abortion in Iraq because military hospitals refuse to perform the procedure. The movie is positive, too, ending with a focus on the activism of the younger generation, emerging coalition-building across gender, racial, ethnic, and LGBTQ rights groups. About the panelists:
- Angie Young is a pro-choice activist and director of the Coat Hanger Project.
- Heather Booth is the founder of Jane, a service she founded that referred women to safe abortion providers when abortion was illegal. Heather founded Jane in 1965; eight years before Roe.
- Alexis Zepeda is the associate director of the National Abortion Federation Hotline and a board member of the DC Abortion Fund.
This is a DC Abortion Fund event and generously hosted by the Association of Reproductive Health Professionals (ARHP). Both are 501(c)3 organizations.

It's that time of year again! The DCAF staff warmly invite you to our annual holiday party "Peace, Joy and Choice" on Tuesday, December 9th, from 6pm - 9pm at the Front Page, 1333 New Hampshire Ave NW, Washington, DC.
Intentional Motherhood: Connecting Abortion, Pregnancy, and Birth
Considering the full range of women's reproductive rights:
The right to affordable birth control.
The right to parent.
The right to choose abortion.
The right to midwifery care.
The right to determine a birth plan.
The right to prenatal care.
Our Bodies Ourselves has provided indispensable information on women's health and sexuality for more than 40 years. Their newest book, Our Bodies, Ourselves: Pregnancy and Birth addresses the questions and needs of women during pregnancy, childbirth, and the "fourth trimester" of early motherhood.
The DC Abortion Fund is excited to host a a book signing and discussion to explore the many connections between these issues.

On Saturday, January 19, 2008, DCAF volunteers counted anti-abortion protesters at the downtown office of Planned Parenthood Metropolitan Washington, helping turn these protesters into unwitting support money for DCAF.

Fringe Festival July 2007
July 2007- Thanks so much to Paulina Guerrero, Erin Mitchell and Hannah Kerr for their terrific performance of "On Your Soapbox Slipping" during the Capital Fringe Festival. Six pieces by local choreographers showcased the talent we have in DC. The shows included strong messages of female empowerment and independence. DCAF received proceeds from the show.

January 23, 2007- DCAF joined the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health and other allied groups in an educational event about the impact of the Hyde Amendment on communities
of color.
DCAF Completes Third Annual Pledge-A-Protester Campaign
January 20, 2007- For the third year in a row DCAF ran its successful Pledge-A-Protester campaign in an effort to raise money and combat anti-choice protesters. Over three-hundred anti-choice protesters targeted a downtown clinic and unwittingly provided much needed funds for women's reproductive health care as DCAF supporters pledged a donation based on the number of protesters.
Mothertongue Benefit for DCAF at the Blackcat
January 11, 2007- The ladies of Mothertongue devoted proceeds from their performance to DCAF. Not only was the show inspiring, but the board members and volunteers of DCAF were touched by Mothertongue’s energy and willingness to fundraise for women to obtain abortions in DC. It was a great event!
