What Sustains DCAF

You know some of DCAF’s most visible fundraisers: Our annual Game-a-Thon and Peace, Joy, and Choice holiday party. But there’s another fundraiser — the sustaining donor program — that happens all year long, and this is the one that makes DCAF the strong organization it is.

The sustaining donor program consists of DCAF donors who have committed to a monthly donation, whether that’s $10, $25, or $100 a month. In fact, the manager of the program, Colin F., says that most sustaining donors get started at the $10 level, so becoming a sustaining donor can be as simple as “donating” one lunch a month to DCAF. As a token of DCAF’s thanks, everyone who commits to a monthly donation of at least $10 can receive a coat hanger pendant.

Not only is it easy to become a sustaining donor — it’s also one of the most impactful things you can do to support DCAF.

“DCAF’s sustaining donor program is pretty much the cornerstone of our operations,” says Colin. “By being able to count on a certain level of money coming in every month, DCAF is able to plan ahead and spend more money on abortions.”

The sustaining donor program is larger now than it was at this time last year, and so is the number of patients receiving funding from DCAF. (Coincidence? I think not!)

In addition to helping DCAF meet the day-to-day needs of patients, the sustaining donor program also helps DCAF come through for patients who have more complicated and more expensive needs, says Colin, citing cases like Jackie’s.

You can join the sustaining donor program by visiting DCAF’s regular donation page and selecting “recurring contribution” when you indicate your donation amount. I’m speaking from experience: as I was close to finishing this post, I took a quick writing break to become a monthly sustainer! After everything I’d written, I couldn’t think of a reason not to.
