EVENTS, FUNDRAISING, AND SPREADING THE WORD:

Your guide to becoming a modern-day Jane.

For decades, the abortion access movement has not only survived, but thrived, almost exclusively through community organizers. From the pre-Roe Jane Collective providing safe access in Chicago, to the roughly half of all local funds led 100% by volunteers, to the community rallying behind DCAF since day one…

Thank you. We wouldn’t be here without you.

THE DC ABORTION FUND PRESENTS

MY BODY MY FESTIVAL

May 16–18, 2024

Presented by the DC Abortion Fund and Burger Sounds, My Body My Festival is the three-day music festival celebrating our right to bodily autonomy. Part music fest, part DC-love fest, My Body My Festival combines an all-local lineup, at all-local venues, with our give-the-clothes-off-your-backs local community in the audience. Join us for one night, jam with us for all three, or celebrate abortion rights at the DCAF afterparty.

Community? Always. Competitive? Absolutely.

Help us hit our goal through LIVE!-a-thon.

We’re looking for those passionate about bodily autonomy to host events, join a fundraising team, donate a portion of business proceeds, plan block parties, and pitch their own ideas to help us expand abortion access. Between March 1–May 31, we’re looking raise $100K for local abortion access (and hey, partake in a little friendly competition with our fellow funds) during our annual Fund-a-thon.

This year, in the spirit of My Body My Festival, our theme is LIVE!-a-thon. Get started today!

Mark your calendar and join the community: Attend a DCAF event.

DC neighbors: Let’s show the nation we’re loud-and-proud about bodily autonomy.

With a single-digit staff, we rely on our community to host events, fundraise, and ultimately spread the word on abortion access. To help us better serve our community, consider taking the following actions:

Host a recurring event

Our community raises funds through house parties, trivia nights, dorm parties, bake sales, monthly running clubs, and even yoga flows. To learn how you can launch a regular solidarity fundraiser on a weekly or monthly basis, download our toolkit.

Become a regular contributor

There are seemingly limitless ways to give outside cash or checks (although we accept those too). Consider giving monthly, hosting an annual birthday fundraiser, launching an employee match program, or including DCAF on your wedding registry.

Create a lasting business partnership

Own a business in the DMV? Consider charging covers, selling wristbands, hosting a raffle, or donating a percentage of proceeds to support the abortion access movement. To start hosting a recurring fundraiser, download our toolkit

OUR ROOTS IN GRASSROOTS

From our first volunteer to now:

In 1995, a DC-local survivor of rape couldn’t afford abortion care. In response, a close friend rallied the community to raise the necessary funds—and the DC Abortion Fund was born. For nearly three decades, DCAF extended abortion access to those within (and those traveling to) DC, Maryland, and Virginia strictly through dedicated volunteers. Through radical community solidarity, a commitment to bodily autonomy, and an all-are-welcome approach, DCAF raises millions annually to pay for abortion care.

Thousands of callers depend on DCAF for financial assistance. There’s hundreds of ways to get involved—starting with educating yourself on the abortion access movement.
