“Could a self-managed abortion be right for me?”

While DCAF does not fund self-managed abortions, here are tools to help you make a quick, informed decision. For additional guidance, please contact Reprocare at 833-226-7821.

You are smart, savvy, and know yourself better than any other person on this planet.

And therefore, no one is better equipped than you to determine the best abortion plan for you.

Self-managed abortions (SMAs) terminate a pregnancy within your own space (such as your home or friend’s house), and often come at a fraction of the cost of in-clinic or telehealth care. The number of self-managed abortions have increased 40% since the overturning of Roe v. Wade, and are typically done through medication (Mifepristone and Misoprostol). Self-managed abortions can lessen certain obstacles—like appointment wait times, travel arrangements, accessibility and language barriers, and higher in-clinic costs—to make care more accessible.

THE GLOSSARY

Are self-managed abortions and medication abortions the same thing?

Short answer: Not necessarily.

self-managed

A self-managed abortion involves terminating a pregnancy outside a medical setting—many times, in one’s own home. Self-managed abortions are typically done through abortion pills or other holistic methods.

in-clinic / telehealth

An in-clinic abortion terminates a pregnancy within an abortion clinic or hospital. In-clinic abortions are conducted under the guidance of nurses, doctors, and support staff. Both medication and procedural (surgical) abortions are available.

medication

Medication abortions can be done with or without the guidance of a medical professional. In-clinic and telehealth medication abortions can be 5X the cost of self-managed care (for the same prescription) and can cost the same as procedural/surgical abortions.
