Celebrating 30 years of funding abortion
To everyone who showed up, partied, volunteered, danced, donated, performed, or otherwise supported our 30th anniversary bash: THANK YOU.
Because of you, we…
Raised a staggering $195,289.03 for abortion access.
Celebrated three decades of bodily autonomy in Washington, DC.
Took back our joy in our home city that’s illegally under occupation.
Made it our biggest, most attended, and most successful party yet.
A quick walk down memory lane: The DC Abortion Fund started in 1995 when this community rallied to raise funds for a rape survivor in need of abortion care. Thirty years, thousands of volunteers, millions raised, countless parties, and infinite moments of generosity later, DCAF has grown to be one of the largest abortion funds in the nation. Since 2016 alone—since DCAF started logging caller data—this community has helped over 45,000 people access abortion care.
How could we ever possibly thank you enough for getting us to this point?
Short answer: We can’t. Longer answer: While we could never possibly thank every single one of the tens of thousands of DCAF baddies, local heroes, advocates, and supporters over the years, consider this a start.
We have to give a special shoutout to DC-local favorite 9:30 Club, for being such incredible hosts for our 30th bash. Thank you to our gorgeous-and-hilarious queen, Tammy Kay, for being our MC of the evening, and for Evry Pleasure, Kae, and Hennessey for their impeccable monologues throughout the evening. Bravo to Pretty Bitter, Taisha Estrada, Deborah Bond, and Laura Lopez, and Zach Pleasant for your wonderful performances, and special thanks to Merry Pin and Crybaby Studios for keeping the party going with friendship bracelets and tattoos. Lastly, sending out gratitude to Paste and Rind, Ellē, Catalyst Hot Dogs, Pop-Up Poutine, and Capitol Jill Baking for keeping us fueled throughout the evening.
Last but never least, thank you to our sponsors and silent auction donors for helping us crush our goals. For our end-of-year fundraiser (our 30th included), we set a sky-high goal of $300k to top off our 30 years. In a single night, you got us two-thirds of the way there.
One more time for the people in the back: “Thank you,” will never, ever be enough.
Abortion seekers in the DC region, in the Southeast of the United States, and those across the country depend on us to access abortion care. Thank you for ensuring these people get the care they need.
In love, rage,and gratitude,
DCAF
